Why is this chanuka different than all other chanukas?
Well, first of all, on all other chanukas the halacha, Jewish law, restricting the use of chanuka candles for any purpose other than parsuma denisa, publicizing the miracle, has not had practical relevance. But on this chanuka power has gone out three nights already making it very tempting to use the light from the chanuka candles. But, don’t worry, we have made sure to light other candles and/or the peraffin lamp.
Also, it’s not every year that one doesn’t have a grater in the house and has to chop the potatoes into small pieces by hand. And then, just as I was getting ready to fry the latkes, potato pancakes, on our one burner on the floor (picture forthcoming), power went out! So, I couldn’t even see what I was frying to know when it was ready to be flipped (mind you, I have not made latkes many times before and was experimenting as it was). So, my dear husband stood over me with two flashlights as I fried all of the latkes!!! That’s love! In the end, the latkes were edible, but I still prefer my grandmothers’ latkes.

Oh you two are so great. I cant wait for a home cooked dinner when you get back. When do you get back? I miss you guys so so much.

Hope she was successful with the group she took. Lil is headed for Israel on the 9th.
